Nativity lent
us nothing.

The Winter Passover
came as the wind
in the winter’s trees
as gift.

Here was Heaven’s
credit card—
Gold as the gifts
St. Nicholas gave
to the desperate girls
in a desperate world.

Nativity Lent
means we are in debt
to love.
